Bible Prophecy Commentary – Earth Mourns under weight of Sin:
Sin not only has an effect on ones body and soul but the earth suffers as well. You may think that sinkholes, cracks in the earth, fish deaths, etc are a natural [normal] phenomenon but it may go deeper than that. The OT prophet Isaiah describes the earth is also under the pressure of mounting sin – what the people have done to and with the things of Almighty God.
“The earth is also defiled under its inhabitants, Because they have transgressed the laws, Changed the ordinance, Broken the everlasting covenant” -Isa 24:5 (NKJV)
Due to mankind’s rejection of God in ever increasing amounts the physical earth is feeling the impact like never before. Earthquakes are rising. Quakes are increasing, but scientists aren’t sure what it means. The recent 6.1 quake in Calif biggest in 25 years has got to raise eyebrows and get people thinking what could be on the way. Volcanoes activity including eruptions are in the rise. Floods out of control. Drought is affecting food supplies and prices. Weather patterns are off the charts. I think that all of us need to wake up to what is occurring on the earth with respect to our [unrepentant] sin before a Holy and Righteous God. He is ever loving, kind and full of mercy but … but He does have a limit on what He will tolerate. The OT is filled with this characteristic of God. Please read all of Isaiah 24 to find out about how and why the Lord will judge the earth in the last days prior to His coming.
18b- And the foundations of the earth are shaken. 19- The earth is violently broken, The earth is split open, The earth is shaken exceedingly.20- The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, And shall totter like a hut; Its transgression shall be heavy upon it, And it will fall, and not rise again.” -Isa 24:18-20 (NKJV)
