Hell is a dreadfully terrible place but also unmistakably real. It exists as sure as evil exists in this world and if you even half-way believe in God and the Bible then you had better pay close attention to what is written here. Even the devoted/die-hard atheist should see reality of hell in the presence of good and evil in such abundant prominence these days. Unless of course their mind has been seared of all spiritual truth and sight.
Hell is not talked about much anymore including in our churches. Why? Because the pastors/elders have lost their vision for this terrible place and/or they are afraid to speak on it for fear of 'offending' their congregations. How sad! So I have provided an introduction to hell with some Biblical facts about this place that people fear and clergy shun. Think carefully, weigh the facts, examine the scriptures and decide if this is the place you want to go to (I hope it is not):
Hell … what is it?
According to scripture, Hell is known as the ‘deep’ or the Abyss-Lk 8:31. Also It is known as the Bottomless Pit- Rev 9:1-3 and the Lake of Fire – Rev
20:14. Hell is translated in Hebrew as Sheol in the OT and in Greek as Hades in the NT. Both Sheol and Hades refer to the temporary abode of the unsaved dead before judgment (Psalm 9:17; Revelation 1:18) – a waiting room if you will.
Hell … in the earth or somewhere in space?
It is located down or into the depths of the earth – Prov 15:24 and Isa 14:9, Psa 55:13-15. It has a location – Eph 4:9.
Hell … is there really fire there?
Hell is a place of intense flame – Lk 16:24 with fire and brimstone – Rev 20:10. It contains worms that never die and they devour you but you will not be consumed-Mk 9:43-46, it’s a place of constant dreadful darkness-Mt 8:11-12, with eternal torment-Rev 14:10 and finally Hell is ever growing/enlarging to receive all those who are going there – Isa 5:14
Hell … who’s there already?
God is there – Psa 139:8. Occupied already with fallen angels and demons – angels that were in rebellion against God are being held in chains awaiting their final judgment -2 Pt 2:4. Satan will bound up there for 1000 years – Rev 20:3. Wicked and bad people are – Rev 21:8 “… the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” And Rev 22:15. Many people that you meet and pass in the street will be there including many that you have seen the church.
Hell … I won’t go there will I?
If you do nothing: meaning you do not accept Christ as your Savior. If you don’t fear God, reject His Son – Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. For man is appointed once to die – Heb 9:27. Doing nothing – sitting on the fence, being lukewarm about the things of God – you’ll get there.
So what do I do?
For those who trust Jesus Christ as their sacrificial Lamb- Jn 3:14-18 – who went to the Cross of Calvary for you and I – for those who put their faith in Him as their Savior. And for those who confess and repent of their sin – daily, not just once – for the the people that follow these things, you will be in heaven. You see hell is a real place and we should never mock it or make fun of it! Thank God no one has to go there – God is not willing that any should perish but all should come to repentance.
Time to decide… but first … watch this 1 min video – The Reality of Hell
Now it’s time to give some real thought to all this and to where you will spend eternity. If your destination is hell, you can change that in a few seconds. Jesus paid the debt of your sin and mine; call out to Him, confess you are a sinner, repent and believe in Him and you shall be saved! Read Rom 10:9-10, Acts 4:12. Do this today, don’t put it off – we are not guaranteed even the next minute of life.
"Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?"
– 2 Peter 3:11-12
