Final Destination – Heaven or Hell? A Choice To Be Made

But Where Will You Go…?

“That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10- for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.” -Rom 10:9-10 (NASB)

Just found out about a friend of mine who passed away very recently. The first thing that I think of when I hear of really anyone passing away is where did their soul go? Their body goes to the grave but it’s the soul and spirit that will live forever.

Our lives here are but a vapor, here today and gone tomorrow is how the saying goes. But in reality this is absolutely the case. And friends this reality will come to each one of us.

You see we only have one chance – while here in the body – to make our decision to follow Christ or not follow Him. Only two choices … please let that sink in deep in your mind and heart.

Now a lot of people will argue this point but just read the Bible and you will know for sure – that is if your faith is build on the solid rock of God’s words to us through His written word. God is truth, the Devil is a liar and will try and take as many people (souls) to hell, which is his final destination, as he can. Le this also sink it for a moment.

Once you/I take our last breath and pass into eternity it’ll be too late to change your mind. You’ve locked in your final destination.

If you’ve made a decision to follow Jesus Christ and make Him you Lord and Savior, then He will meet you at the gates of His kingdom and usher you into His presence. If this is not the case, then the door to certain hell awaits.

My friend’s decision was, as far as I can tell, was to live in the world and enjoy the sin of the world and rebellion to the truth written in God’s word. I suspect but don’t know for sure that he woke up at the gates of hell bit a real possibility based on his lifestyle. Sad!!. Very sad!.

Please friend, I urge you and everyone to make Jesus your Lord according to Romans 10:9-10. Call upon the name of the Lord and be saved. Saved from what? Eternal damnation, the penalty of your sins, saved from the wrath of God. And do this ASAP – today – for today is the day of salvation.

Remember, we are not guaranteed one more minute to live and any of us could perish before the day of the day today. Jesus put it in perspective when in Scripture He emphasized the need for repentance (of sins) when answering the people in Luke 13. His only focus in His answer was on the importance of repentance in a person’s life. Repentance goes hand in hand with being saved. Confess, believe and repent. (Read and follow the ABC’s on my webpage to be assured of salvation).

I will conclude with this thought – if death came today, where would your/my soul’s final destination be?

“There were some present at that very time who told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. 2– And he answered them, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered in this way? 3 No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. 4- Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them: do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who lived in Jerusalem? 5- No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.” -Luke 13:1-5 (ESV)

Many Christians and Tons of Churches Have Lost Their Love for God

“But I have this against you, that you have left your first love. 5- Therefore remember from where you have fallen, and repent and do the deeds you did at first; or else I am coming to you and will remove your lampstand out of its place—unless you repent.” -Rev 2:4-5 (NASB)

Churches and Christians have become lazy and lethargic in their faith of a Holy, Righteous and Living God. Many Church services have all the bells and whistles in their worship but are empty, lifeless and void of any relationship with Almighty God.

There are many Christians who just go to church to “fit” in with the church crowd or they go to satisfy their egos or they go to make themselves feel good alleviating them from the guilt of not going. Notice I didn’t say they go there for the main purpose of meeting God and engaging in worship with Him only.

Pastors are keen about telling their flocks how good they are and how they can prosper. And as such these fake pastors fail miserably at confronting sin and repentance and teaching all the Rock Solid truths of the Gospel.

Churches today are all about giving motivational talks – pep talks – to their flocks and steer people away from the rock-solid truth of God’s word. Remember the pep rallies we had at high school before big sports games…? Same thing!

God must be the only foundation of the church. Nothing else can replace this or assume His position. It cannot be about the men and women who form the leadership team, not the worship team, nor the anticipated/planned growth in attendance or the building infrastructure.

Consider the Seven Churches of Revelation written around 95 AD. Corruption, heresy, and spiritual deception had infiltrated them even at that early stage. Today, it’s 10-times worse! The Seven Churches were addressed directly by the Lord; He applauded only 2 but chastised the others (5).

I was talking to a good friend the other day and they said what a super teaching a local pastor had given at their church. One of faith and fear and how you arrive there. What was missing from our discussion was the teaching that God is the sole author of faith and Satan is the author of fear, guilt, worry and doubt. You see the church my friend attends is one of those that engage in a pleasing, non-engaging, softening of the Gospel with lots of rock music and entertaining pulpit attractions – a “seeker” church model. Disgusting!!

God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit must be at the core of every church and every Christian. No exceptions! Let’s learn today from how the Lord addressed the very first and young churches of Christianity.

The Churches of Revelation

“Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and heed the things which are written in it; for the time is near.” -Rev 1:3 (NASB)

Ephesus – abandoned their first love but looked good on the outside. They did and said all that was good but on the inside they had “lack-of-a-heart-for-God” trouble. The Lord’s rebuke was to REPENT and seek Him again.

Smyrna – Suffering persecution and were about to face more persecution for their faith.

Pergamum – Called out as Satan’s throne. They compromised their faith and idolatry crept in. They had succumbed to the likes of the Nicolaitans who taught occult paganism and compromise. Jesus hated their doctrine and deeds. The Lord’s rebuke was to REPENT and seek Him again.

Thyatira – A false prophetess – a Jezubel – was leading new Christians away from God. “...that you tolerate the woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, and she teaches and leads My bond-servants astray so that they commit acts of immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols.” The Lord’s rebuke was to REPENT and seek Him again.

Sardis – A looking good church but was known that it was dead on the inside. It housed those who looked like Christians (you know they played the part very well) . They did and said all that was like Christianity but were not real in their faith. People were asleep to spiritual discernment and revelation. I think most of our churches today take on the traits of this church. Notice there were no commendations given to this church at the opening of the letter. Instead the Lord hits them hard with several rebukes. The Lord’s corrective action was to REPENT and seek Him again.

Philadelphia – “...because you have a little power, and have kept My word, and have not denied My name.” Christ was at the center of their faith and Jesus was with them. This is the model for a church and a Christian.

Laodicea – A purely lukewarm church. A church that would make God vomit them out of His mouth. They compromised God’s truth, they were puffed up in their beliefs and they were totally Godless. They engaged in the prosperity doctrine; were known for richness in material goods, but bankrupt in spiritual truth and maturity.  The Lord’s corrective action was to REPENT and seek Him again.

So these seven churches represented the early spectrum of Christianity and their messages were clear but what about today? Yes indeed, they represent us today both at church and in our Christian walks. Take heed everyone the Lord is watching and He hears and sees all that goes on. He knows where people are at in their faith, in their Christian walk whether good or bad. He knows fake worship from the real worship and He hates false, empty and worthless worship. Read Rev 1-3 and see what the Lord had to say in the last book of the Bible. The message, the reasons for a declining church and what they had to do to get back in line and return to Him.

Churches and Christians, come back to the Lord in true and holy living. Look back on why you became a Christian and :“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” – Matt 22:37 (ESV).

Come back to the Lord. Worship Him in spirit and in truth!

“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”

“Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?” -2 Peter 3:11-12

Are You Really Excited About Eternity and Meeting Jesus?

Or Are You Dreading it?

“keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life.” -Jude 1:21 (NASB)

What fills our mind in these now intense witnessed and perilous times? With such fears as future pandemic’s, power grid failures, storms, stores closed, layoffs, unemployment,  riots, destruction, wars, etc? With all these negative things occurring around us in what or in who do we look to for comfort?

Is it something of or in the world? i.e. unemployment $$$, bank accounts, people, churches, etc?

Or is it in Jesus Christ?

Have our minds been inundated with thoughts of Jesus and His word, meeting Him at some appointed day in the future and then going home with Him? Have we leaned on our faith that the Lord God would watch over us (those that are His) and protect us?

All these questions and thoughts linger within and without but on which side do you land when faced with the world, your faith and Jesus Christ? Are you trusting in Him at all times? Even in your dread, in your fears, in your circumstances? Is your faith unwavering, strong, secure and rock solid in the Lord? And are you longing for His return and your eternal home at His house in heaven? Bottom-line: is the Lord your Master?

Consider the parable told us by Jesus in Luke 12 concerning men and their Master:

Be dressed in readiness, and keep your lamps lit. 36- Be like men who are waiting for their master when he returns from the wedding feast, so that they may immediately open the door to him when he comes and knocks. 37- Blessed are those slaves whom the master will find on the alert when he comes;” -Luke 12:35-37b (NASB)

These men were waiting – all the time – for the return of their Master from the wedding feast so that they might – immediately – open the door to Him when He arrived. They were not playing around. They were always watching and waiting. They were always thinking about his return. This was no joke! They lived in their faith, trusted in their Master, and waited for Him in anticipated joy and expectation. They then were blessed because they were focused on his return and alert to when he arrived. Can this describe you and me today…?

Or perhaps you are hung up in worldly stuff. Hanging on the things that make you feel secure in your present state of mind and being. But the real litmus test is if you fell into very difficult circumstances who and what would you seek out for help? Jesus or the world? Or what if you were facing death, what would help you to face this situation? Jesus or the world? And are you waiting for Him?

“You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God.” -James 4:4 (NLT)

Finally, with all this said, do you long for the day that you get to go home to Him? Are you waiting anxiously to enter the gates of heaven and live forever with the Lord? Please face these questions head-on and don’t ignore the reality of life here and now and finally your eternal life. And please don’t make your religion, your god! Religions cannot save your soul from eternal damnation, only Jesus Christ has the power to save – trust and hope in Him alone!

If you have not considered these things now maybe the time for a complete reassessment of your walk (or lack of) in the Lord. Today is the day of salvation for we are not promised tomorrow. Are you totally committed to the Lord God Almighty? Have you been washed clean by the blood of the Lamb, forgiven of your sin, repented of your sin and dwell in the reality that when you pass from this life to the next it will be in paradise and not in hell?

The Lord is full of love, kindness, mercy and forgiveness but our action items are to obey the instructions in His word – the Bible – and seek His forgiveness through our confession of sin, profession of His Son, and in total repentance. Please read and heed Romans 10:9-10 and call upon the name of the Lord today. He will hear and He will answer.

“so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.” -Heb 9:28 (ESV)
