Bless the Lord, O My Soul and Never Forget The Good Things He Has Done for Me

In the Midst of Any Crisis or Storm – Praise Ye The Lord!

“Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his:” -Dan 2:20 (KJV)

The world is reeling from the effects of the nasty virus plaguing nations, people and economies. Many have become infected and many have already died and I suspect many more will also before this thing decreases. This has become a crisis for many across the globe and as a result even more are in the middle of a difficult storm in their lives.

For those who know the Lord and have put their full trust in Him, this also a time to remember what He has done for us and what He will do for us as a part of His will. I am describing what God’s Word says we are to do not only at this time but all through our Christian lives. And that is to “Bless the Lord” and never forget all the earthly blessings or gifts He has given us. It’s very easy to forget the blessings He has and is giving us every day – the things we often take for granted. Psalm 103:1-5 (below) is an incredibly wonderful and uplifting Psalm to bring our attentions back to Him.

“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! 2 – Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, 3- who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, 4- who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, 5- who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” -Psalm 103:1-5 (ESV)

We are to bless His holy name!

We are to let our soul awake from the cares and concerns of this life to bless the Lord for what He has done for us. But many might ask, what does it mean to bless the Lord? How do I do it?

Blessing the Lord simply means to praise Him, to exalt and magnify Him in our lives, and give Him all the worship that is a direct cry from the depths of our soul. We must do this as a real born-again Christian and it must come from the very inner most part of our soul. Remember, if we give Him only “lip service” in routinely reciting some bulletin or handed out paper or book script, well, that is not worshiping Him nor is it blessing Him. It’s called lip service and He knows it exactly.

“‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; 9- in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’” -Matt 15:8 (ESV)

We need to glorify God through acknowledging His presence in our lives through our professed love, sincere praise, admiration, reverence, fear, thanksgiving and real no-kidding worship of His Holy Name. And we are to do this knowingly and willfully, not out of the mundane veneer-covered religion that so many are obsessed and associated with.

Love the Lord more than anything in this world. Love Him with you’re whole heart and place the Lord God Almighty upon the throne of your life.

Psalm 103 says despite what we are going through we are to remember six things He has done for us. Namely…

  • He has forgiven our sins if we ask Him and then draw near to Him in repentance,
  • He has healed all our diseases – (His will be done),
  • He has redeemed our lives from certain destruction in hell through the sacrifice of His Son on the Cross of Calvary,
  • He has given us the power to love with kindness and mercy,
  • He has given us good food to eat,
  • And our vigor and vitality is renewed like the eagle’s.

Despite what we are going through today and/or what we will face tomorrow, we must bless the Lord looking forward to the prize that awaits all who have run the race Him Heb 12:1-3. Bless the Lord all you people, bless His Holy name, and praise Him.

A Psalm of Praise

Praise the Lord!
Praise God in His sanctuary;
Praise Him in His mighty expanse.

2- Praise Him for His mighty deeds;
Praise Him according to His excellent greatness.

3- Praise Him with trumpet sound;
Praise Him with harp and lyre.

4- Praise Him with timbrel and dancing;
Praise Him with stringed instruments and pipe.

5- Praise Him with loud cymbals;
Praise Him with resounding cymbals.

6- Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord!
