Bible Prophecy Commentary – Idolatry Sweeps America:
Idolatry in the Bible is best described as to betray or replace Almighty God with other gods – inanimate, fake, false and dead objects. Time and time again the ancient Israelites turned their backs on God in the worship of material things – idols that they could see, could not hear, could not speak nor could they change the situational turmoil the nation faced many times over. But when they returned to God He healed them and their land and when they returned to their idol worship, the people and land suffered – a recurring theme in the OT and NT.
So here we are in America 2014, we are and have been practicing the same things. Another Black Friday filled with trampling, fighting, and killing others for the sake of stuff. How smart and wise we Americans are. And filled with our pride we continue taut ourselves to be such intellectuals, people of knowledge and learning, people of books and education, people of wealth and people of high esteem. But it’s the material things that we crave, they fill our thoughts and subsequently we are blind sighted in that we have to have these things. Our minds are fixed on more stuff, more wealth, more things that bring us only temporary pleasure. Things that get us no closer to the Living God but instead farther away. We worship, admire and bow down before these things, these things that cannot profit us. Our lives are not the same without them – cars, jobs, pleasure, TV, movies, sports stuff, etc. Everything but God. God is pushed out and replaced with our insatiable appetite for more things, more stuff; violence over objects to push and mall and pounce at stores on occasions such as Black Friday or should I say “Hell Friday“.
Folks, Satan knows exactly what he’s doing by diverting your attention away from worshiping the true and Living God. He has baited the hook of idolatry throughout the ages, he has tons of experience of what turns on mankind and now more than ever, people, especially in money-hungry America, he’s hooked many fish into his big basket of deception. We have little thought of our plight, our captivity in the cage of idolatry as it directs almost everything we do, say and think. Yet our spiritual lives reek of the smell of dead gods which cannot profit, cannot help, cannot save. God help this nation!
The solution to our overwhelming covering of this luring deceptive and deceitful darkness is to put your priorities back in place. Ask some questions to yourself? Could you live without your idols? Without your stuff? What if they were taken away from you, what would you do? If you can’t answer these or stumble as to what you would do, it’s very possible to need to reassess your spiritual live in terms of were your heart is. Who do you worship right now today? God or mammon – money or stuff? Yes, straight talk again but isn’t that what America needs now?
