Prayer Time To Jesus Christ or the Social Media Wasting of Time?

Do You Seek the Lord?

“Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:” -Isa 55:6 (KJV)

We live in a world of advanced and rapidly evolving technology and blistering transit and as such our minds are sometimes distracted too much upon worldly cares.

This begs the question of people far and wide, both Christians and unbelievers and that is how much time do you spend consumed in technology? From TV, to videos, to video games and to the most “robber” of our time … social media. In the last days, it is prophesied that many will fall away from the faith into apostasy. Many will listen to the wrong voices, voices of a plethora of false prophets and teachers. But for some, the remnant – those that keep focused on the Lord through prayer and fasting, through the reading of God’s word and through communicating with the Lord throughout the day – their minds are stayed on Him (Isa 26:3).

The biggest waste of time that I can see and this will steal people away from their faith, is social media. From Facebook to Twitter, to Instagram and others, people are being tricked by the Enemy of our souls in believing that posting and reading of such dribble is all around good. Not so! Here’s a litmus test if you think I am wrong. How much time do you spend in front of your computer or smart phone reading the nonsense of the world? Now the flip side of that direct and pointed question is … “How much time do you spend in communicating with Almighty God and His Son, Jesus Christ?”

Heavy duty questions for all of us!

But in all seriousness, how much time do you spend in prayer? On your knees, at work, at home, riding in the car, etc. You can pray to the Lord anywhere and at anytime. No one can steal this away from you! Not even the heartless Communists in China.

“If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” -Col 3:1-2 (ESV)

If you tally up your time and find you spend too much of it wasting in or on social media, it’s time for a change. Put down the phone, turn off the computer, get away from the TV and seek the Lord. It is prophesied that people will turn to false Christs and follow false prophets/pastors in the last days – Matt 24. They will fail to discern the signs of the times and the lack of truth in the message of the charlatans leading “Christian” movements across the land. Why? Because they don’t know the truth of God’s word since they don’t read it. They spend little time with God and do not know Him (and I don’t care how many times you go to church as church cannot replace your personal one-on-one relationship with the Lord). As a result, many will fall away. Jesus said FEW will find their way to Him as time progresses (Matt 7:14). He said that when He comes will He find any faith left on the earth – “Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?” (Luke 18:8b).

I know many people that spend too much time chatting with friends about the trivia of the times, spend time after church services talking the drivel of the world instead of praying for one another and edifying each other in the Lord. This is tragic and churches are not teaching we need to be more about talking about the Lord and praying for one another much, much more that any do today.

And finally practice 1 Th 5:16-18 which says – “Rejoice always, 17- pray without ceasing, 18- give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. I would like to draw your attention to the second thing we must never fail to do and that is “pray without ceasing“. This is a simple, non-negotiating, no excuses, command for us as Christians to engage in every day. So in conclusion, how much time do YOU spend with the Lord vs. how much time you spend in and with worldly cares and concerns?

“Now set your mind and heart to seek the Lord your God. ” -1 Chron 22:19 (ESV)

“But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a trap. 35- For it will come upon all who dwell on the face of the whole earth. 36- But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.” -Luke 21:34-36 (ESV)
