The Suddenness of Death

Would You Be Prepared to Enter Eternity Today?

What Will be Your Eternal Destination?

Recently, I heard of a family innocently driving down a country road on their way to a important event. Without warning a truck ran a stop light hit another truck which slammed into the car killing almost all the family members. Things like this happen every day all over the planet and they are tragedies. The suddenness and unexpectedness of death lurks for your soul, ever elusive of sure identification. Yes, this is a surety that all of us must face; you must consider it whereever you live, and in whatever situation, condition or status of your life.

Untimely, tragic, or for that matter any death underlines and highlights the importance of being prepared for what could come for any of us anytime. By that I mean death and for some, an unforeseen death – one not expected nor even planned for.

People all over the world are reeling from extreme weather and natural calamities and some have found themselves caught suddenly in a flood, mudslide, volcanic eruption or earthquake and perished. Were they ready? Did they consider their own death would come so quickly? Had they even thought about it? Had they planned for it? Perhaps not…

Folks, what I write here today is no joke and should not be interpreted as fear mongering or negativity. This is as real as your next breath but who thinks about it, who talks about it and more importantly who plans for it? Now physical planning is always advised (i.e. funeral, etc) but the planning I'm talking about today is spiritual.

How many of us give it another thought during the course of a day?

Or do most of us sweep it under the rug of our mind or stow it away in some obscure place hoping it will never happen?

There are many in the world today that scoff at the idea that we have a soul and it will last forever. There are others that think death will be a party with other like-minded souls. I tell you this is not the case! Scripture gives a good example of those that think they have it all, are at ease and aren't planning or considering their death.

Consider what the Lord said to the man that planned in the physical, focused on his stuff and did not plan for eternity.

"And He told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man was very productive. 17- And he began reasoning to himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, since I have no place to store my crops?’ 18- Then he said, ‘This is what I will do: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. 19- And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years to come; take your ease, eat, drink and be merry.”’ 20- But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your soul is required of you; and now who will own what you have prepared?’ " -Luke 12:16-20 (NASB)

Most of us plan pretty good before we take a vacation. We research and lay out itineraries down to the tee ensuring that we make the most of our limited time off. But who, friends, researches and plans for a trip you will not come back from? And that trip is eternity. Thinking it won't happen or is far off in the distance is foolish and not healthy. Today is the day that you must consider this seriously.

The world is becoming very dangerous – terrorism, wars, crazy people, stray bullets, gang wars, extreme weather, accidents, etc. Are you ready if your name was called into eternity today? Have you prepared in your heart, mind and soul? Have you accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? If not, today is the day to make that decision. Please do not put it off for the fact of the matter you may not be alive by tonight's supper to give it more thought and/or consideration. Do it now!l

Read Romans 10:9-13, these are very simple instructions for you to ensure you receive forgiveness for your sins and if sincere and serious about it, reserve a place in heaven with the Lord. But you have to profess Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, then seek His face and repent of your sins. You must live each and every day with your mind focused on things above (Jesus Christ) not on the things of this earth – Col 3:2. These are your action steps.

What will you do now with this information? Will you be ready to stand before the Lord and be ushered into His presence or be presented the "other" door? Sobering thoughts friends.
