Are You Hungering and Thirsting For The Living God?

What’s It Mean to be Hungry and Thirsty for God?

“And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.” -John 6:35 (KJV)

We live in a fast pace and now in many places a calamitous world. And we don’t often take time to consider where we are at with the Living God. Even Christians have become callous to the things of God and yes even the churches, many of them, have lost their way in knowing and understanding Him. Many people have become oblivious to who or what God is and even what it means to be saved.

We all get physically hungry daily and if we go without water for 3 days, we could end up in a terrible state. Physical hunger is only half of our makeup. The other half and most important half is spiritual in nature. And this side of us needs to be equally nourished. Some people eat junk food but if they continue in this mode they could end up physically in a bad way – out of shape, fat-prone, heart issues, etc.  Those who feast on the Lord will enjoy a healthy spiritual lifestyle.

There’s a parallel between our physical and spiritual beings. We [should] hunger and thirst in our spiritual lives and the only true and healthy solution is God Almighty. All other solutions are fake, false and evil. So in light of this, do you and I hunger and thirst for God daily? Scripture is loaded with those that did find nourishment in Him and those that did not.

“O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.” -Psa 63:1 (ESV)

The big question is we who call ourselves Christians, do we hunger and thirst for the Lord? Not just on Sunday but every day of the week. Do we search the scriptures to find out all about Him? Do we go to our “prayer closet” and seek Him in our quiet time? Do we spend more time in His word than playing on our smart phones or watching movies and the TV?  How about Facebook; do we waist time on this social media outlet more often that we should be seeking the Lord in His word?

“Ho! Every one who thirsts, come to the waters; And you who have no money come, buy and eat. Come, buy wine and milk Without money and without cost. 2 “Why do you spend money for what is not bread, And your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, And delight yourself in abundance.” -Isa 55:1-2 (NASB)

OK, now the look in the mirror introspective question. If we aren’t hungering and thirsting for the Lord then are we really doing His will? I say, no! He wants 100% of us – body, soul and spirit. So if we are not on-board with the Lord 100% of the time, with what are we feeding our souls? Is it Him or the world’s ways, ideals, or [vain] philosophy’s? Or are we spiritually very healthy because we daily feed on His word; we pray, we tell others about the Good News, and we live a holy life unto Him.

Every 0day we hungry and thirst, grab a burger and a drink and go on our way. This happens several times a day. So as believers in God, what are we doing to feed our spiritual soul? Please reflect on these things reverently and take the needed action.  Steer a course to the Lord and never waver.

“Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?” -2 Peter 3:11-12
