Life on Earth Is But a Vapor But Eternity is Forever! So Where Will You Go?

Your Body Goes to the Grave But Your Soul …

Will it Go to Heaven or Hell?

“Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. For you are just a vapor that appears for a little while, and then vanishes away.” -James 4:14 (NASB)

Recently I read of a person whose mother experienced a massive cerebral hemorrhage presumably without notice and survived enough to arrive at the hospital. Brain scans revealed massive bleeding, she had no cognitive ability and the neurosurgeons had little if no hope for any successful surgery. This is truly sad, and my prayers go out to her family. Yes, but how many other countless stories like this have we heard over the years? The gravity of this account and others like it should shake us all back to the reality that there is instant death, an eternity and there is a heaven and hell, and we must take steps now to ensure we are ready to meet and stay with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

The opening verse above states the reality of the duration of our life here on earth. We are just a vapor, a puff of smoke considering this life and the one to come in eternity. We are here for a very short time and then we are gone.

Take a look at what Jesus said about our lives and what is important while we are yet here. Luke 13:3-5…

“Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them: do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who lived in Jerusalem? 5 No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.” – Luke 13:4-5 (ESV)

The tower fell and men were killed seeming in an instant. Jesus focused in on what is the one thing we can do while here on earth to secure our eternal destination. Repent! Or … perish in hell.

No one, absolutely no one regardless of position, status, wealth or anything is guaranteed time to prepare beforehand for their death. It could come slowly or instantaneously. For this reason, we must keep this in focus each and every day of our lives.

The abrupt end of life is in front of us all every minute of the day and so we must be constantly ready to enter eternity with this in mind. Once you depart this life, you and I will enter the next. No negotiations, no courts, no lawyers, no purgatory, and no second chances – see the story of the rich man and Lazarus in Luke 16:19-31.

PREPARE FOR ETERNITY TODAY!

The decisions we all make while here and, in the body, will set in motion and seal our eternal fate/destination! And so we must make and stick by our critical decision to serve the Lord, confess and repent of our sin and claim, identify and profess the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior – Rom 10:9-10, Rom 10:13, Acts 4:12.

For today is the day of salvation and salvation is found in NO other name than that of the Lord – 2 Cor 6:2

The importance of this day is paramount to all of us right now. We must without fail seek the Lord and receive His free gift of salvation. Who knows … some of us may not even make it to tomorrow.

“Do not boast about tomorrow, For you do not know what a day may bring.” -Prov 27:1 (NASB).

Yes, these are not pleasant things to talk about and I dare say that most churches refrain from even mentioning things of this nature but they must be said! For our eternity hangs in the balance of being informed of the true Gospel and the truth in what it says whether lovely or terrible.

The importance of this day lies in the reality of our priorities and decisions concerning eternal life.

Keep in mind, eternity is but a heartbeat or breath away. It’s hidden behind the veil of this life and then … it’s there and waiting … the Lord is waiting for you today to seek Him and surrender your life to Him … now, today! DO not seek the things here on earth for they are …

“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20- But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21- For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” -Matt 6:19-21 (KJV)

Center your mind on the things of heaven. Grab your Bible and read about it. I like what the Apostle Paul said when he described a “person he knew” that visited heaven … 2 Cor 12:2-3. Friends, seek the Lord, seek Him today, secure your place in His Kingdom by following clear and easy instructions found in Romans 10:9-10. It’s that simple! He loves us more than we know but He is also just and judgment will fall on those who reject Him and obey not the Gospel. Amen
