“Search Me, Oh God and Know My Heart”

“Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: 24- And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting..” -Psa 139:23-24 (KJV)

How many of us have stopped to consider and examine where they are in the Lord Jesus Christ? You know we are commanded to do this as stated in Scripture – 2 Cor 13:5.  We are to examine ourselves to see if we are still in the faith. In other words test ourselves to see if we still have Christ in us. This must be done often and without fail for there are many distractions and enticements in this world that can steal us away from following the Lord and living a holy life.

Remember King David from the Old Testament … a man after God’s own heart? He prayed the prayer above – Psa 139 and asked God to try him, to see if there was any wicked way about him. If David had to do this why do many in the church today think they are exempt from doing the same? Why? Because most Christian churches don’t preach the Gospel of the Lord. They focus on preaching happiness instead of holiness. People sit in the pews every week but for most Christ is not part of their lives. They go through the motions of being a Christian but their hearts and minds are far from Him. You who identify with this, please consider that eternity could only be one heartbeat away.

There are many false converts (false rebirths) that profess to know Christ but fail to follow His will. As a real born-again child of God, we must survey our faith to see if falls in line with what Christ tells us in His word. And one of the big tests of our faith is repentance. Do you practice this? How often do you sincerely repent of your sin before a Holy God? And another big factor of being a disciple of Christ, a follower of Him, one who can really call themselves a Christian and that is found in John 8:30-31:

As he was saying these things, many believed in him. 31- So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32- and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”  -John 8:30-32 (ESV)

Abiding in His word. This is a true mark of your relationship with Jesus the Christ. How often do you read His word? Daily? Weekly? Only when in church? Or perhaps you wait until the end of each day, while your mind is tired from the day’s activities and find it hard to focus on what He is trying to tell communicate to you from the Living words of Scripture? Please friends, I encourage you with all my heart to read, study and immerse yourself in the Holy Word of God. For only then will you come to realize who He is and solidify your relationship with Him.

Let your sincere prayer be today that the Lord would search your heart and tell you of things not right in your walk with Him. Confess your sins to Him and then change your attitude and then your ways in repentance. Folks, understand that without repentance no one will enter the Kingdom of God – Luke 13:1-5.  Consider today where you stand in the Lord; examine your heart and ways, prove your faith through these scriptural doctrines.

Amen and amen.
