And What Will it Mean to You Personally?

The season in which we celebrate Christmas is upon us now and day we celebrate the Lord’s birth is only but a week away. With this in mind what will be your focus this Christmas? What will fill your mind, your thoughts, your time? Will it be the shopping, beautiful arrayed trees and lights, house decorations, food preparation and plenty of good eating, holiday cheer, family and friends? What will occupy your heart and soul this Christmas? Will it be the commercial aspect of this season or should it be spiritual and what it means to you personally, spiritually and emotionally?

Take a few moments to read what Gabriel, the messenger from God, proclaimed to Mary?

“And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, 27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. 29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. 30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. 31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus. 32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: 33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.” -Luke 1:26-33 (KJV)

As Jesus was born in the manger, the angel of the Lord declared via a heavenly host to shepherds nearby a great announcement that a Savior was just born, who is Christ the Lord. (It is interesting to note that Christ is only referred to as the “Savior”  twice in the Gospels.) This is significant and should not go unnoticed by those who delight in His Holy word.

“In the same region there were some shepherds staying out in the fields and keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; 11 for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.”” -Luke 2:8-14 (NASB)

Also notice that a heavenly host appeared that was vast in number. Can you imagine the thoughts running through the minds of the shepherds? Yikes! Terrifying to say the least but oh so magnificent, glorious and supernatural! Shouldn’t the words in these few verses make you consider just what this season should be about? Not glitter or gifts, not food or drink, not presents or self-satisfaction but on the Holy One sent by Almighty God to be the Savior of the world. To take away the sins – be the ultimate sacrifice – and provide a way to eternal life if you believe on Him, confess your sins and repent living then a holy and righteous life before Him. 

Shouldn’t the message and celebration of Christmas center in and focus on the Lord Jesus Christ and His mission to a dying and sinful world? Shouldn’t we concentrate on these things first and foremost in our personal lives, and when we are with family and friends? The hustle and bustle of this world’s celebration of Christmas has been skewed and warped to a commercialized monster that centers around money, buying and excessive giving. And this is not what Christmas is about.

Friends, take some time this Christmas to reflect on your personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and what His birth, life, death and resurrection means to you. Do this with all sincerity of heart; spend much time in prayer with a sincere desire to seek His face. This is what Christmas should mean to all and not just once a year either. Please friends consider these things carefully and take them to heart this season. Also, tell others this Good News!
