Vacant – Swept Clean and Put in Order

What’s In Your House – Light or Darkness?

“And when it comes, it finds the house swept and put in order.” -Luke 11:25 (ESV)

There are many in the church, in fact, there are many so-called Christians that don’t want to hear what I’m about to preach today. They don’t want to hear anything about spirituality – theirs, I mean.

So many of us that profess Christ as Lord want nothing to do with knowing the flip side of saying you’re a Christian. They want little to do with looking in the spiritual mirror and coming face-to-face with who they really are in Christ. Many want little info on the “negative” side of Christianity. They prefer to have daisy’s and pretty music adorning their spiritual life. Bottom-line: they don’t even want to talk about it.

But, we must…!

The reality of the matter is as Jesus stated in the text for this message today. If your house is found empty, then all the doors are unlocked and the reality is that evil will come in. You see there are only two sides to our spiritual nature – good, represented by the Lord God Almighty and His presence or evil, represented by the Devil and his presence in one’s life. There can be no Christian middle-of-the-roaders or no fence-sitters in Christianity for if you are found that way then … Rev 3:16.

It’s time for all of us to look at our life in Christ with urgency and in straight up seriousness. Are we serving Him – do we focus on total surrender to Him in every aspect of our life? Do we make it our mission to follow and do His will. What is His will? Reading the Bible and being doers of the Word.

“But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.” -James 1:22 (NLT)

Or do we play church and play at being a Christian? If so, we are only fooling ourselves, not God. If this is the case then your spiritual house has been cleaned and swept clean of the things of God. And since it has to be inhabited, it is either with God or it’s with the Devil. Face the facts friends, there are no other options available. The Lord says we either serve Him or align ourselves with one that scatters – that’s the Devil. And this type of house can seem good but is filled with gossip and wickedness, division, malice, lies, deceit and ways that seem good but are not.

“Anyone who isn’t with me opposes me, and anyone who isn’t working with me is actually working against me.” -Luke 4:8 (NLT)

Serving Christ is full-time. Dying to self, total surrender, reading His word, praying, seeking His face, sharing the Gospel, practicing the love of Christ to others. These are signs of a house filled with Jesus Christ. And living these things wards off evil. Having a spiritual house full of God’s light puts the bars on the doors and windows. Having a house that’s seems clean but is empty void of any Light, opens wide the doors for evil and wickedness to come in and abide there.

So I pray your spiritual house is filled with the Light of Jesus and you serving Him. If your assessment today of your spiritual house is not full-on with Christ but instead empty, dark and cold, then today, seek the Lord and put Him first in your life. Confess your sins, profess His Name and repent! Today, not tomorrow! Don’t just think about these things, do them!

We are not guaranteed our next breath or even the next beat of our heart so today is the day for salvation. Today’s the day to do some housecleaning and eviction. If you house is void of Christ, kick the darkness out and serve the Lord – fill your spiritual house with the things of God – the fruits of the Spirit of God – “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23- gentleness, self-control;.” -Gal 5:22-23 (NASB)

“Get out of here, Satan,” Jesus told him. “For the Scriptures say,

‘You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.”  -Matt 4:10 (NLT)
