Empty and Swept Clean -Vacant- Souls

The Fullness in Christ or the Emptiness of a Vacant Soul

Have you ever come across a vacant lot, a space of land between say, two other buildings that was meant perhaps for another house that was never built? Or have you ever seen pictures of lots of land where a house is still standing but obviously in disrepair because it has been abandoned or not maintained? Tall uncut grass and weeds litters its surroundings. Broken windows and weather-ridden wood decries it’s current inward and outward state. Today’s message is just this – has your soul lost its hope in the Lord and now it’s nothing but a land where something of value once held its place and now nothing but abandonment describes its existence?

The Situation-

From nations and kingdoms in wars and turmoil, from an increasingly violent nature, to a dysfunctional society, this planet is becoming a very treacherous and dangerous place to live. Violence, hate, and lawlessness are defining our cities, towns, states, and nations. Extreme weather is becoming the norm with volcanoes igniting all over the globe to earthquakes increasing in size and scope like never before in human history. Folks, all these things are called out in Bible Prophecy and have, are, and will happen with ever increasing fervor.  The truth of the matter is that things will not get better. Oh, for short bursts of time they may seen they are back to normal, but the reality is they will worsen. I am not trying to be a fearmonger, nay-sayer, or a preacher of gloom and doom. I am only echoing the truth of the Word of God. Have you ever read and/or been taught the truth of the Book of Revelation? If so, you know that this world is destined for the judgments of Almighty God, and friends, this will not be a pleasant time. So what do we do?

“Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.” -Matt 12:44 (KJV)

If you find yourself today drifting on a raft of despair, or if you have lost your first love in Christ, or if you are just idling along finding your [temporary] joy and strength based on your friends, family, or stuff then you are heading for great discouragement. In fact, you are on a wide path that will lead to destruction – Matt 7:13-14. This I call living with a “vacant soul”. A soul that is not filled with Christ, has no purpose, has no hope, has no direction, and wanders trusting only in the temporal visual things and people of this life. It is now time to change.

Our Only Hope-

“O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.” -Psa 63:1 (ESV)

This world is destined for ultimate destruction – 2 Peter 3:10. So our absolutely only hope in this decaying world is to seek Christ and His free gift of salvation. He came in humility, preaching and teaching the Kingdom of God. He came to heal and have compassion on the sick, the lame and to those who had or lost all hope. He came as the only begotten Son of the Living God offering us living water to quench our spiritual thirst so it would never thirst again. His love for us is beyond our understanding, but suffice it to say that He loves us dearly and does not want even one to perish – 2 Peter 3:9. He loves you and me and only wants us to obey, follow and live a holy life unto Him. He asks for our 100 percent surrender and dedication in trust and faith. He wants to fill our souls with hope, love and the promise of living in His house for eternity.

So will you take Him up on His offer, or continue your decline into despair and hopelessness. It’s time to wake up and understand that this life is but a vapor – James 4:14 and once we die our physical body decays in the ground while our soul lives forever. Now is the time to shake off any attachment that makes you cling to this world and then reattach through your confession of your sins and in true repentance to the one and only one that can save you – the Lord Jesus Christ. Will you do this or will you remain lost and destined for an eternal separation from God? Are the “things” of this life more important than considering where your soul (the essence of your mind, heart and emotions) will spend eternity?

The Bottom Line-

You have but only two choices. Heaven or hell – Matt 25:46. Heaven with Christ based on you accepting, professing and living for Him, or Hell – the easy and wide path – leading to eternal torment and damnation – Matt 7:13-14. For what you are doing right now – the choices and decisions you make – will shape your eternity. You may be as stubborn as a mule, totally resistant to change – a person who rebels at the truth in Christ and has lived in your own ways and wisdom. Friend, this reasoning will lead you into eternal torment in the depths of hell’s continuous flames. No parties with like-minded hell-bound friends, no virgins, no paradise promises – just plain eternal consuming and endless non-destructive flames – Mark 9:43, 48. Time to think on this very seriously! For it’s too late once you exit this life to reconsider where you will go in the next.

It’s now time to get right with God filling up your souls with the wisdom and knowledge of Jesus Christ – our Lord and Savior. Fill up your souls with the living water in the hope of Christ- John 4:11. Now is the time – do not put it off. We have no guarantees of this present life, not even the next minute. Many people throughout the world are dying unexpectedly via crazed radical religious suicide bombers, others through demented and lost souls that have no value for human life for they have refused or rejected the light of Christ. We all must live every day as our last and so be prepared in the hope we have in Christ to enter His rest – Heb 4:1.

Your soul will be filled with either Jesus or evil for these are the only two forces in the universe today -Psalm 1. That being said, today, then is the day to get right with Jesus Christ and obtain your free gift of salvation and a reservation for eternity with Him. Do not leave your soul empty and swept clean. So…what say you?
