Sin Can Be Pretty and Friendly But Yet Deadly and Destructive

“If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:” -Psa 66:18 (KJV)

In America true love for Almighty God and Jesus Christ has almost become extinct. Oh yeah, people – Christians – go through the motions but how many of them truly know the Lord God Yahweh? How many tremble at His name and word? 

Now this message today can be superimposed across all nations for this is why this world is falling apart across all levels of society.

But why? And how?

SIN! Unconfessed and unrepented of sin has sickened our states (just look at Calif, Seattle, Chicago, New York to name a few). Sin is destroying those cities and eroding any association or mention of God from their midst.

You see many Christians still “regard” – hold onto, keep secret, love – sin in their hearts. They love sin – the sin that has trapped them and for the most part blinded their eyes to the truth of the Gospel – the Full Gospel. Even preachers fall into this subtle yet dangerous and toxic cauldron of groomed and cared-for sin. Now the big question for our sin-riddled and sin-manicured society is why don’t our prayers ever seem like they are answered? Well, here’s a big reason that must be considered before anything else.

Unconfessed and unforsaken sin in one’s life. Unconfessed before a mighty God, the only God of all Creation and unforsaken since people don’t repent and turn from their wicked and evil ways and lifestyles. Yes, wicked and evil! For if it is not as unto the Lord then it is against Him and takes on the label and nature of wicked and evil. Hard words … yes, I know.

The Lord says here in Psa 66:18, that if we embrace and hold fast to our sin that He won’t hear our prayers. “Won’t” is a hard word to understand but very true in it’s meaning. If we continue to do wrong both in our private life and national life then the perils and evils of sin take over and infect, sicken, weaken our lives and our national existence with and ever-growing sin-destroying-sickness. We see this happening all over America these days. Just look at this article and read it carefully – ““The Skid Is Everywhere”, And We Just Received More Confirmation That The Worst Is Yet To Come” by Michael Snyder. Quite telling is this picture of the “new” America.

So all this being said where are you at today? Hugging onto [your] “sacred” sins that cling to your heart that you are unwilling to repent of? Rebelling against this hard truth in God’s word [that BTW, our Christian churches fail to preach and teach on]? Or other lies that you tell yourself or listen to that self-justify your attitude against the truth of Scripture and what God says clearly about iniquity (sin)?

Here’s my interpretation of our study verse today:

If you cherish and cling to your sins, then don’t expect God to hear or answer your prayers.

“Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!:” -2 Cor 13:5 (ESV)

Friends, if what I’ve talked about here describes your friendship with your sin then it’s time to turn around and chart a new course that steers you directly into the harbor of God. Now this isn’t as easy as it sounds. Saying on this narrow road means hard, striving work and plenty of it (Matt 7:13-14). Daily examination of where you are at in Him – 2 Cor 13:5 – is a requirement to our Christian faith. But … how often do we do this? Do we mumble the words in our prayers – make our lips move – but our hearts are far from Him? -Matt 15:8. Are we putting on a garment of fake Christianity, trying to show our piety to others cloaking ourselves with a fine, nicely colored veneer of religion? Only between us and God can the real truth of these questions be answered and at the same time know fully that God measures our hearts and not our heads -1 Sam 16:7.

Tough, hard-hitting words for all of us to hear but yet founded upon the Word of God. Are you saved today? Seek God with a sincere heart and mind. Read His word and strive to know Him personally. Please I urge everyone do not put this off.

“And so the Lord says, “These people say they are mine. They honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. And their worship of me is nothing but man-made rules learned by rote.” -Isa 29:13 (NLT)
