There Will Be No Cowards in Heaven

The Fearful Will Not Partake in Heaven’s Blessings

“But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”” -Rev 21:8 (NASB)

Wow! That’s a pretty stark subject for today but is it true? Jesus states several times those that will not be in heaven; those that will not make into His rest – 1 Cor 6:9-10; Rev 21:8; Gal 5:19-21; Eph 5:5. One thing I’ve noticed in my years as a Bible reading and believing Christian, when Jesus mentions things more than once or twice in His word, He absolutely means what He says. Today’s truth is one you will rarely find taught in our easy-going Christian churches today.

Remember, God’s word is our only source of truth. Not man, and certainly not the traditions of men!

So what about these cowards? The word coward transliterates from the Greek word ‘deilos‘ into the English words that mean timid or fearful and is only used 3 times in the NT – Matt 8:26; Mar 4:40 and Rev 21:8. It means being fearful and as you see by reading the verses above it refers to your faith – fearful in faith. Now this is a wide-open door for the meaning of faith and what it means in your life and mine. Notice that in 2 of these verses Jesus talks directly to His disciples about their lack of faith. Their lack of believing, their little display of their trust or confidence in the Lord. They lost all hope even though He was right there. How true is this today in our lives.

We must learn that professing to be a Christian but lacking real faith is dangerous to our spiritual health and if not corrected can bar you or me from the Kingdom of God. Let me further state that this should start in our churches by our shepherds teaching first, the full council of God and second all the truths in scripture. For if they don’t how will we know?

Those pastors and leaders who whitewash or hide the hard Biblical truths (like in modern contemporary worship services) are plain, flat-out, worthless, fearful cowards and they could feel the sting of the scripture truths talked about in the verses mentioned in this teaching. Those who handle (teach, preach, lead) the word of God better take it more serious than anything they do in their lives – James 3:1. Churches should not resort to being just pep-rallies in Christendom. Many of these are popping up everywhere and even the ones that used to teach the real truths are handing over the reigns to the more contemporary, happy, truth-compromising, entertaining, comedian-type preachers that draw people in because their style of teaching is easy to swallow and oh-so happy. Lots of coffee and donuts with lattes on the side to allay people away from the real truths Jesus taught us in His word.

And Koolaide teaching is the order of the day. No engagement, twisted truths to not offend, low hanging fruit style of preaching, no mentioning sin and repentance not even in the modern churches curriculum. The men that teach in this manner are plain, Godless cowards and will pay heavily for their misuse of the Gospel.

Friends, we all as Christians need to know that if our faith is dull and rusty, and therefore weak, it’s because we haven’t sharpened it on the Word of Rock-Solid truth. The result may be there is no substance to our faith and we may find ourselves in spiritual disarray.

But Brother P this is too hard to hear! Yes, it is. But wouldn’t you rather hear it while you still have breath and can do something about it?

Additionally, those who are apostates (renounced, defected from, or departed from faith in Christ) or those that give way or compromise under persecution can also be considered one who is Biblically a coward. According to scripture there will be many who depart from the faith in the last days – 2 Th 2:3. There will be many that will be persecuted as well; if you or I should fall into persecution for our faith in Christ what will we do? Cave to the world or stand fast in our faith in Christ?

It all boils down to our fear of the Lord. Do we fear Him? Does our faith prove or disprove this? Do we shun all forms of evil -Prov 3:7? The disciples Jesus was talking to lacked the faith that Christ would take care of the issues at hand. They doubted (another characteristic that will keep you out of heaven) and the fear that produced the doubt was toxic to their spiritual health. How applicable is this to us right now?

Notice in Rev 21:8, who else is grouped with the cowards or fearful and the doubters… Not a very good crowd! Kind of gives you a view of what God thinks.

Many here in 2018 live with almost no thoughts of death or eternity. Most really never give it a second thought.  How many today will be tragically killed by some drug infused lunatic that just wants to kill people. You know this is happening more and more these days. Please reconsider and rethink your life in Christ – are you faithful or are you a doubter? Jesus spoke plainly on the topics of heaven and hell and He wasn’t kidding.

Are you a coward being fearful in your faith that God will see you though any and all situations? Is He at the helm of your life? Is He your life?

If you claim to be a Christian but continuously doubt in your faith then it’s time to realign your life, faith, trust and hope in Christ.

If you are a pastor who has basked in the glory of eloquent, expressive and articulate preaching but have left out the truths of scripture just so people wouldn’t be offended, then look out! You may be classified in the Lord’s eyes as a coward in the faith, not proclaiming the full council of God – Acts 20:27, fearful of what others may say or do.

It’s time for all of us to reassess our spiritual position in Christ in light of His words even the ones clear to the end of the Book – Rev 21:8. The ones seldom preached but oh-so glorious to our soul in the Blessed Hope that is yet to come for those that are called, chosen, and faithful – Rev 17:14. For as scripture tells us in Matt 22:14, many are called but few (did you get that, few) are chosen.

Where’s all this find you today? A frequent doubter, faithless, fearful, timid, apostate in your faith? Are you saved?

“Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21 envy,[d] drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.” -Gal 5:19-21 (ESV)
