The Urgency of the Gospel

The Gospel is Life, it is Truth and it is Powerful

“It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.” -John 6:63 (KJV)

We live in a dangerous and unpredictable world never knowing one minute from the next. Our lives are at risk no matter where we are or what we’re doing. It is never more critical that we focus in on and prioritize where we stand for eternity. Knowing about the Gospel message is essential for these days but who is taking this message seriously? Nothing, absolutely nothing can be more serious in our lives today than the urgency of the Gospel message to our souls.

The gospel is the Good News because it brings a person into the knowledge of the everlasting God of Creation and His gift to mankind in His Son Jesus Christ. He is our Savior from this lost and unholy world. He is our life-line to an eternity of living with Him in His home – heaven. He is the Lamb of God who came, preached God’s world to an unbelieving people (Jews), was scourged and beaten, was crucified and buried yet rose again on the third day to pay our penalty of sin by His blood shed on the Cross of Calvary. This is certainly the Good News but who hears it, believes it, understands it, grasps it close to their heart and most of all – lives it?

This Gospel, this Good News is meant for all of mankind. It is living and powerful and a free gift of God but … you must believe in Christ and confess Him as your Savior. Then you must live it … daily. Going to church like a robot gets you nothing. It’s worthless and useless. Church attendance is not about the Gospel. Christ is the Gospel and we need to embrace Him as our Lord, our King and Savior. These are essential components of the Gospel. Remember that the church is not about a building , it is instead about a people, a believing people in what Christ did for us on the cross. Church can be held anywhere – “where two or more…” – Matt 18:20. And Rom 16:5.

Today’s Christianity has not embraced this Gospel due to all the other stuff that has influenced and infected the church. Today’s Gospel message is about self, about feelings, about not offending anyone. Really the message preached today is about social pleasantries. About nice stories, twisted to sound nice scripture, untruths, etc. Very few preachers will tell you why Christ came, His message of righteousness, His position on sin, His dictates on repentance, His message on His next return. IN this light, we as Christians must without fail read His word asking the Holy Spirit for insight, wisdom, knowledge and understanding. For only then will we digest the true meaning of the Gospel. Listening to a entertaining, dry and softened Gospel gets you nowhere and does nothing to secure your eternal destination.

The words of God contained in His word are living and powerful (John 6:63). They are life amidst the death that surrounds us. They are living words unlike the plethora of worldly books and magazines that proclaim little of His mercy, grace, love and message. We need to focus on reading His word all the time. We cannot know Him unless we seek Him with all our hearts. You will not become a car by residing in the garage day in and day out. Similarly, you will not become a saved and born again (in other words – a true Christian) going to Gospeless churches sitting there just to be seen or for the attendance factor.

Friends, it’s time to think seriously on these things. No, I mean really seriously. It’s about life and death … eternity with the Lord or eternity without Him. It’s time to dig deep inside our hearts to examine just what the Gospel means to us. The urgency of the Gospel knocks at our souls wanting to come in but many are not listening and heeding the message. The Lord Jesus Christ is waiting for us to respond to His Gospel message. So where are you today?

“Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?” -2 Peter 3:11-12
