None Other Name

“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” -Acts 4:12 (KJV)

I am reminded of a story of a blind man who made a habit of reading scriptures from a Braille Bible for he was blind. One day while reciting the sightless words a few people gathered around him, a passerby stopped to see what the spectacle was about. At that time the blind man was reading from Acts Chapter 4 but lost his place. While he tried to regain his lost position he kept repeating the last phrase he read, “none other name – none other name – none other name – none other name“. Again and again he repeated these few words trying to find where he last read from. The curious visitor left the crowd and returned home only to have the repeated words of the blind man echo over and over in his mind and soul – none other name – none other name – none other name! As tried to fall asleep that night the words kept resounding in his mind. He woke up the next morning and realized that Jesus Christ only that could save his soul for their is no salvation in any other name or in any process of man’s works.

How  many today really know who can save them from their sin? How many care? Has salvation through Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross become only historical, a novelty or something irrelevant for this high tech culture in which we live? Many today in our postmodernist society rely upon their works to save them. They rely on their intelligence, books, rationale, scientific thought or only pragmatic evidence. They rely on their religions, on their religious men, books and idols. Now, how many actually read the word of God – the Bible – and rely upon His saving grace or undeserved merit? How many rely on the grace and mercy from God Almighty to save their souls from certain death? We all will face death one day;  those that have received the Lord’s gift of salvation will go to be with Him in heaven for all eternity and those that have relied upon man’s wisdom will go into everlasting judgment in hell separated from God (Rich man and Lazarus story in Luke 16:19-31). We have a choice right here and now to profess Jesus’ name as our Lord and Savior; once we step through the gates of eternity our destination is set. Consider these words soberly friends as His words are living and they only can give life (John 6:63).

Today’s message is brief but nonetheless important. In what do you place your trust and faith this day? If you died before the morrow, where would you spend eternity? There is none other name in heaven or on earth by which we must be saved.

“Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?” –2 Peter 3:11-12
