Convenient Fast-Paced Christianity

Dan 12:4

Today, we have drive-thru churches and drive-thru prayer services, fast food churches and prayers to go. The fast pace of our society today is off the charts (even if there were no charts). We are zinging to and fro like never before. Our technology advances are phenomenal to say the least. Since the 1940’s technology development has exploded. Today we live in the birth and wake of an ever-emerging highly advanced society – at least here in the west. What’s all this mean? First of all, Dan 12:4 prophesies that the world would be just like it is today – knowledge increasing and people running to and fro. People have little fear of the Lord mostly because they don’t take time to find out who He is.

What impact does this have on a Christian’s faith and life? For the most part it is negative, a distraction, an excuse. Fast this and fast that. A fast-paced culture with people wanting things quickly so they can move on to the next thing. People, IMO, put technology ahead of their faith and lean on it more than, let’s say, reading God’s word. Yes, I know eBibles are plentiful but does the availability of them produce increased study and meditation? I think not. Today’s churches are fast-paced social events more than worship times. Yes, I know tough words. But, really, look at them … you run to church, sing songs quickly, hear fast prayers, rarely hear personal testimonies and listen to a soft, non-engaging, empty timed sermon. Then out everyone goes to do their thing the rest of the day. I would suffice it to say that later in the day many couldn’t even recall what the sermon was about.  Likened to this are our circle of friends or family gatherings. How much time is spent talking about the Lord when we gather? His benefits, His available wisdom, His miracles, His answers to prayer, His mercy, love, faithfulness, justice and most applicable for today His next arrival? We indeed talk of all the mundane things of the world, not that they are bad but more so that they permeate our meetings and discussions, seemingly all the time.

Malachi writes in Mal 3:16 (KJV), “Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name.” How often do we do this? How many of us are hurting, have a dreadful disease yet few will sit down personally and pray one for another with sincere hearts.

My point today is that most of the time we focus on our own thoughts and are driven by our own selfish ambitions. We should be engaging with people and talking about the Lord and what He means in our lives. We should be talking to those that don’t know the Lord even in our own families. Yes, Jesus is coming soon but what if your name or one of your family is called into eternity today, have you or they made a decision for Christ based on someone that took the time to talk about Him instead of thumbing at their cell phones or starring with glazed eyes at their new fangled tech item? Today, take time, talk to someone, set aside your gizmo or gadget, share God’s word with them. We are all composed of body, soul and spirit right now but when we die our soul will go to one place or the other – heaven with Christ or hell with eternal torment. I want to win souls for Christ … how about you?

“Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?”
